DID YOU KNOW?
While the vast majority of Americans (95%) with hearing
loss could be successfully treated with hearing aids, only 25%
(6.35 million indivduals) currently use them. Only 5% of hearing
loss in adults can be improved through medical or surgical treatment. |
THE
HEARING AND SPEECH FOUNDATION
One goal of The Hearing and Speech Foundation is to raise money to conduct research
into the most effective ways to measure hearing loss and to fit hearing aids.
Operating under a contract with the Foundation, Blount Hearing and Speech is
presently conducting research to determine the amount of speech energy needed
for the brain of a hearing impaired person to perceive speech without visual
clues.
The
Anechoic Chamber at BHSS is an important part of
this groundbreaking research. This project will allow us to
increase the accuracy of fitting your hearing aid.
